  About us

Italia-Inghilterra is a non-profit cultural society officially founded in 1987 by a group of teachers and professionals working in the field of culture with a good knowledge of and a strong Principe Carlo with Franco Staffa passion for the English language and English-speaking countries. It began its activities in the same year under the direction of Franco Staffa, an English teacher in an Italian secondary school. Mr Staffa is still the President today and was in 2002 awarded the title of MBE by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.

Our Activities:

1. English Courses
From beginners to post-proficiency, taught by native speaker teachers all with university degrees and TEFL or CELTA qualifications.

2. Book and Video Library
The only truly British library in Sardinia

3. Series of lectures and seminars in English
Britishness in Sardinia - a series that has been repeated annually since 1987, which emphasises the relationship between Sardinia and Britain.

Institutions in English-speaking Countries - a series that has also been held annually for the past 19 years and which concentrates on social and institutional matters that are common to both Sardinia and English-speaking countries.

4. The production and circulation of art exhibitions
We have so far organised a total of 13 exhibitions, amongst which:

La Strada Felice, photography and contemporary landscape in Sardinia, at the Italian Institute in London in 2006.
Le Mutanti - 7 women artists from Sardinia, which toured Britain in 1999 and the United States in 2002.

Images from the Past: The archaeology of Sardinia at the end of the 19th century in the unpublished photographs of the Dominican Father P.P. Mackey. The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the British School at Rome, and was displayed at the Museo Nazionale A. Sanna in Sassari, the Galleria Comunale di Nuoro and the Centro d'arte EXMA' in Cagliari.
